In the 90’s, the state of Louisiana enticed tourists with the slogan, “Come as you are . . . leave different.” The slogan addressed two universal human desires: to have a safe place where we are welcomed just as we are, and to have a challenging place where we are empowered and encouraged to grow. In this sermon, we see that Christ provides such a place for believers. Paul assures the church at Colossae that Jesus provides a place of security and peace even amidst the storms of life – a place where we will always be accepted and loved by God. He also reminds the church that Jesus’ work of reconciliation is ongoing and challenges us to continue growing in our faith, not allowing the trials of the world to distract us from the hope of the gospel.
